All About Enlarged Pore Treatment

Large pores are usually the visible indentations and openings of pilosebaceous follicles. These are hair follicles that can become enlarged, drawing unwanted attention to their dynamic structure. There are many theories on what causes them including sex, acne, genetic disposition, and aging. (1)

Causes: Sex

Studies have shown that pore size is usually larger in women than in men. It is also known that pore size is correlated with sebum output, which is much higher during menstruation. (1)This is especially apparent during ovulation and leads to women having more visible pores, something that cannot always be controlled by outside circumstances during their period.

Alternatively, some studies have shown that men often have more visible skin pores than women, more often having prominent blackheads and embedded pore formation. The trouble is that even though pore size can be visibly determined by the individual, it can also be intrinsically measured. Sebum secretion can be higher around the nose, leading to an increase in blackheads and large pores in the area. This is also often dependent on patient specifics and skin type. (1)

Causes: Aging

As the skin ages, elastin fibers start to decrease and the production of collagen slows down. This can lead to decreases in dermal integrity, causing skin laxity, sagging, and enlarged pores. Though there is a need for further research on the subject, it is believed that the aging process itself may lead to an increase in large pores due to decreased protein production. (2)

How Can Pure Plasma Help?

The methods used to treat enlarged pores are vast, usually consisting of ablative laser application, topical products, and a change in diet. (2) Though the usual treatments can be moderately invasive and sometimes painful, Pure Plasma offers many rejuvenating factors that may reduce the look of pores without the use of lasers and microneedling.

Pure Plasma implements a device that creates nitrogen plasma to stimulate regeneration below the skin’s surface. The top layer of skin is not agitated, making the treatment gentle yet still effective in resurfacing the skin without causing the typical kind of controlled damage to the epidermis. This treatment can lead to a continuation of collagen and elastin production for up to a year after your appointment.

It is important to remember that the development of large pores is complicated and the treatment of them may be as well. Since there is limited research available on the deeper specifics, it can become difficult to completely treat large pores, especially since there are multiple outside factors that contribute to superficial skin topography. • Noticeable, enlarged pores on the skin
  • Textured skin

  • Sagging around the mouth, jawline, or under the eyes

This treatment is fit for most patients who are looking for overall rejuvenation of the facial skin. They must be in overall good health with no active lesions or cystic acne present at the time of their appointment.

Before every treatment, patients must limit their consumption of NSAIDs and certain herbal supplements. Even though Pure Plasma does not actively break the skin barrier, it is important to monitor your health before any rejuvenation treatment. If you use self-tanner, please refrain for at least a week before and after your treatment date, and stay out of direct sunlight if possible. Before your treatment, cleanse the skin with a gentle cleanser and skip any makeup application or harsh lotions.

Personal Consultation

Pure Plasma is a great addition to any well-rounded practice. Its versatile handpiece can be adjusted for each patient, allowing a truly customized experience. Consultation can be spent examining the skin and choosing the treatment plan carefully. If a patient has sensitive skin, our device can still tackle stubborn skin ailments without damaging the outer layer. Depending on the patient, Pure Plasma can treat large pores as well as dark spots, fine lines, and other forms of skin texture.

Pure Plasma Procedure

During a Pure Plasma procedure, the device applies a supply of ionized nitrogen gas to the skin. The reaction from the heat used creates plasma that is directly applied to the skin. Nitrogen plasma creates a thermal effect on the skin that boosts collagen and elastin production that is effective and long-lasting.

Depending on the patient and their concerns, this procedure takes anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes to complete. Aquaphor is applied to the face after treatment to keep it moisturized and protected. The patient should continue applying Aquaphor for the first few days after their treatment.

Recovery & Results

There is no recovery period associated with this treatment. The patient’s skin will peel after about 3 to 4 days, but the skin remains intact throughout this process. Collagen and elastin fibers will start to regenerate and will continue for 9 months to a year. Patients often notice their results as soon as the peeling stops, and these results will get more noticeable with time. We recommend that they wear sun protection and keep a good skincare routine to preserve their results and prevent further photodamage. As cells turn over, skin tone and texture will improve, and enlarged pores will shrink and become less noticeable.

Before a patient seeks a second treatment, their skin should be completely healed. Pure Plasma is non-ablative, but the skin will need to recover before undergoing another procedure to prevent overworking the dermal layers.

In-Office Treatment with Pure Plasma

For patient convenience, this treatment is easily performed in-office with no need for recovery. The versatile handpiece is easily handled by physicians, and customizable to accommodate many different types of patients.

FAQ

Is Pure Plasma treatment painful?

No. This treatment is gentle and comfortable and there is no need for numbing agents like with similar skin rejuvenation treatments. Patients may feel some discomfort when the device targets the sensitive under-eye area, but it will be mild.

Can Pure Plasma fix my double chin?

The skin-firming qualities of this treatment can definitely be targeted underneath the jaw. For the right patient, this will tighten and sculpt the chin with one easy treatment. If there is extra fat in the area, Pure Plasma is not equipped to remove fat cells, so different treatment options might be recommended to sculpt a double chin.

Can Pure Plasma treat tissue damage and scarring?

Pure Plasma can definitely be used to reduce the look of scarring, whether it be from acne or injury. This device retextures the skin to smoothen out imperfections and even skin tone.

Does Pure Plasma use your own blood for rejuvenation?

No. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a popular skin treatment wherein blood is drawn from a patient and PRP is extracted and reinjected into the treatment area to revitalize the skin. Pure Plasma uses gas, not blood plasma, to create a thermal effect on the skin. There is no injection involved.
